Contemporary is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. Contemporary dancers strive to connect the mind and the body through fluid dance movements.
PLEASE NOTE – Students should enroll in the contemporary level that corresponds with their ballet level. If a dancer is not enrolled in ballet, a placement class is advised.
This class is for students with an intermediate level of ballet background, who are currently studying ballet. During this class dancers will improve upon balance, control, flexibility, and interpretation of music with dance. This is a 60 minute class. *Ballet 3 and 4 students or faculty placement.
This class is for students with an intermediate level ballet background and who are currently studying ballet. During this class dancers will encompass balance, control, flexibility, and interpretation of music with dance. This is a 60 minute class. *Ballet 5 and 6 students or faculty placement.
This class is for the advanced dancer only. Using Ballet as its source of inspiration, contemporary is a great class for continuing to build technical skill while also expressing emotion and artistry. This is a 50 minute class. *Ballet 7 and 8 students or faculty placement.
Hip hop mixed with the grace and expressiveness of contemporary; this class focuses on bringing out the students’ individual styles and creative identity, while combining elements from contemporary, street dance, and classical technique. Particular attention is paid towards connecting movement to the music as well as the emotions of the story being portrayed. This is a 60 minute class for beginning/intermediate dancers. *Hip Hop 2 and up, Ballet 2 and up, or faculty placement.
