Class Descriptions


Baby Ballet: for the youngest dancer and their parents. In this class, children will focus on fun movements, stories, music and imagination. 30 minute class for 2-3 years of age.

Discover Dance/Tap: for children who are ready to venture in to the studio without mom and dad. This class teaches the basic elements of movements, dance and music in a creative way.45 minute class for 4-5 years of age.

Pre-Ballet:introduces a more structured ballet class, during which basic ballet vocabulary and movement is taught. It is now when body memory begins to form, all leading up to a strong foundation in ballet.60 minute class for 6-7 years of age

Pre-Ballet/Tap:following the same model as the Pre-Ballet class, with the added element of tap dancing.

Ballet I: a dancer's first traditional ballet technique class. Students will learn a variety of steps while focusing on strengthening their bodies.60 minute class - faculty placement.

Ballet II: a progression of ballet I, in which the students will continue to learn ballet terminology, transitional steps, rythmn and poise. 60 minute class - faculty placement.

Ballet III: the most anticipated level for young dancer. . . . Pointe shoes are introduced! This level will focus on strengthening exercises and more intricate steps. 75 minute class - faculty placement.

Ballet IV: geared toward the intermediate dancers. More difficult steps are taught and performing opportunities increase.90 minute class - faculty placement.

Ballet V: Studio West's most advanced level and is recommended 4-5 times a week. In this class movement is polished and difficulty is increased.90 minute class - faculty placement.

Jazz I:incorporates traditional jazz dance with some hip hop influence. Ballet is highly recommended as a supplement class because most jazz steps are derived from ballet.60 minute class - recommended for ages 6 to 9.

Jazz II: geared toward the more intermediate/advanced dancer. Strengthening exercises and a variety of jazz combinations are the focus in this class.60 minute class.

Jazz III: our most advanced Jazz class; offered for teens and adults. 60 minute class.

Open Ballet: a technique class for the intermediate ballet dancer who would like to take 1-2 times per week without serious commitment.75 minute class.

Beginning Adult Ballet: tailored for the brand new dancer, or for the student who has had a break from dance and would like some refreshing.60 minute class.

Adult Jazz and Conditioning: a fun way to tone your muscles and get a great cardio workout, while learning basic dance steps and moving to up-beat music. 60 minute class.

Stretch & Strengthening:strengthen and tone your muscles in this exercise class with a strong Pilates influence. Bring a mat. 60 minute class.

Hip Hop I:an urban influenced, energized and grounded style of dance. 60 minute class for 8 to 11 years of age.

Hip Hop II:a continuation of the fundamentals for more advanced students. 60 minute class for 12 years of age and up.

Adult Hip Hop:an urban influenced, energized and grounded style of dance for adults. 60 minute class.

Tap:A rhythmic mainstream tap class that focuses on street style tap, also known as hoofing. 60 minute class.

Tribal Belly Dancing Level I:an elegant yet earthy style of belly dance, that focuses on improvisational "non-choreographed" group dance. Foundations and a basic vocabulary of movements are learned. 60 minute class.

Tribal Belly Dancing Level II:in this class you will build on the foundations learned in level I. 60 minute class.

Tribal Belly Dancing Level III:the most advanced level offered, learning combinations and concepts. 60 minute class.
