JAZZ is a dance form that appeals to most everyone because of its high energy, variety, and vitality. Jazz Dance classes (which students can begin at age 6) explore contemporary and classical jazz dance, rooted in the vernacular (social dance) forms. This style of dance draws inspiration from a wide range of music including jazz, swing, blues, pop, soul and funk.
PLEASE NOTE - Students should enroll in the jazz level that corresponds with their ballet level. If a dancer is not enrolled in ballet, a placement class is advised.
Jazz I: This class is for beginners and incorporates traditional jazz dance with some hip hop influence. Ballet is highly recommended as a supplement class because most jazz steps are derived from ballet. This is 60 minute class - recommended for ages 6 to 9.
Jazz 2: Is geared toward the beginning/intermediate level dancer. A variety of jazz combinations, strengthening/stretching exercises and lyrical movements are the emphasize of this class. Ballet is highly recommended as a supplement class, because most jazz steps are derived from ballet. This is a 60 minute class * Ballet 2 students or faculty placement
Jazz 3A & 3B: Is a progression of Jazz II. This is a 60 minute class * Ballet 3A & B students or faculty placement.
Jazz 4: This class is for students with an intermediate level ballet background and whom are currently studying ballet. During this class dancers will encompass balance, control, flexibility, and interpretation of music with dance. This jazz class also incorporates the following styles; lyrical, contemporary ballet and modern.
This is a 60 minute class - * Ballet 4 students or faculty placement.
Jazz 5: Is a progression of Jazz IV and is for the intermediate to advanced dancer. This class requires strong ballet technique. This is a 60 minute class – *Ballet 5 students or faculty placement.
Advanced Jazz: This class is for the advanced dancer only. This is a 60 minute class -- * Ballet 6 students or faculty placement .
